Based on a popular radio series, each show tells a different reporter's Big Story, a true story selected from newspapers across the United States. Comments from the actual reporter open and close each show but the permanent narrator drives the plot line and a featured actor dramatizes the reporter's role.

Follows the decade-long police investigation into one of Britain’s most dangerous female murderers. Over 20 years, Dena Thompson who was known as ‘The Black Widow’, carried out a sustained campaign of fraud, deception, bigamy and murder. Using Lonely Hearts columns to lure a succession of husbands and dozens of lovers into her life, she was able to coerce them into giving up their life’s savings, their homes, their families and their freedom based on her bizarre but convincing stories.

Shian is a woman whose boyish looks attract her attention from other women who think she's much more attractive than the average guy. However, she struggles with two issues, an extreme fear of men and excessive meddling from her mother. Suddenly appearing before Shian was beautiful college junior Ritsuko. As kind-hearted as she seems, she's actually an obsessive stalker who has feelings for Shian. Meanwhile, Shian starts working part-time at a women's cafe, where she meets head chef Hasumi Yuushin. Although he is a man, she realizes she doesn't find herself panicking around him, but beneath Hasumi's true facade is that of a playboy. She seeks help from Hasumi to overcome her fear, however, Hasumi proposes mediating between her and Ritsuko as a condition, and the two of them form a 'secret alliance'..."

For most, this is akin to a second coming out process. The culmination of the workshops will be a public performance where they will face down their fears of stepping into the limelight. Oh Happy Band! is a situation comedy written by David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd. The series ran for six episodes in 1980 on BBC 1, and featured the last screen appearance of comedian Harry Worth. For musical sequences, the series featured the Aldershot Brass Ensemble. Since broadcast, the series has not been repeated or released on any home consumer media.
