He signed with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in 2018, where he is a one-time IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, a one-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, a five-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and a two-time NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling Champion. In tag team competition, he is a one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion with BUSHI and a one-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion with BUSHI and EVIL. Outside of NJPW, Takagi has also competed for Ring of Honor (ROH), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), and various Japanese independents.
Widely praised for his in-ring ability throughout his career in both Dragon Gate and NJPW, he was voted Rookie of the Year in the 2005 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards early in his career. In 2021, he placed 9th on the Pro Wrestling Illustrated PWI 500, received the MVP Award at the Tokyo Sports Puroresu Awards, and was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler and Japanese wrestling’s Most Valuable Player by readers of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
In 2025, he married fellow Japanese professional wrestler Natsupoi.
