You Can Count on Me (2000)

In early 20th century New York City, an impoverished socialite desperately seeks a suitable husband as she gradually finds herself betrayed by her friends and exiled from high society.

Having escaped from the psychiatric prison, Dr. Albert Beck hides out in an empty house until its new owners unexpectedly arrive to move in! Forced into the attic to evade the recently widowed mother, Beck watches from above... undeniably attracted to her 18-year-old daughter.

Edna's father wants her to marry wealthy Count He-Ha. Charlie, Edna's true love, impersonates the Count at dinner, but the real Count shows up and Charlie is thrown out. Later on Charlie and Edna are chased by her father, The Count, and three policeman. The pursuers drive off a pier.
