On a sweltering summer morning, just as Wei-Han was heading out for delivery run, he discovered that the fridge had broken down—all of his girlfriend Chia-Lin’s ice pops had melted. Chia-Lin called the landlord, insisting that he replace the old fridge with a new one, but Wei-Han didn’t want to escalate the situation. The two began to argue in their cramped rooftop room.

Three of them decide to go to the port city of Kaohsiung to look for work. They find an apartment through relatives, and Ah-Ching is attracted to the girlfriend of a neighbor.
