“Don't P/WOKE a sleeping Badger!”
When Berny (11) joins a motley Scouting troop called the Badgers, he resolves to win the Golden Scout Trophy, which his deceased father had won. However, when Berny’s radicalized foster mother, Gerdy, weasels her way into becoming the Badger's new co-leader, she cancels all future competitions. This year's competition is Berny's only chance at the trophy, so he cheats through the trials to become the Badger’s selected contestant. This sparks rivalry with jr. troop leader, Lars (13), and ignites a battle for the throne between Gerdy and her naive co-leader, Gunnar. Now Gerdy leads a coup d’état and is about to seize the rights to the Scout house. Unless Berny confesses his charade, the Badger’s will lose everything; will he sacrifices winning the trophy and risk losing his newfound friends?

When Michael McCann is thrown over by the woman he loves, he becomes something of a misanthrope and a miser, spending all of his spare money on collectible gold coins. Living in the same town is an affluent family with two sons: John and Tanny. Tanny's a wild boy, whom John cannot control, and one night he breaks into McCann's house, and steals the gold and disappears, which nearly confirms McCann's distrust of mankind. But then, a mysterious young woman dies in the snow outside McCann's house, and her small daughter makes her way to McCann's house and into McCann's life and heart.
