Paul Verhoeven: From Holland to Hollywood (1996)

Six college friends blowing off steam on a camping trip, find themselves caught up in a cat and mouse hunt with an Alien monster. Not knowing what to do or who to trust, they struggle to protect themselves. Reluctantly, they join forces with another, seemingly friendly, alien, Ava, who orbits the Earth and appears to them in the form of an avatar. Having only one chance at stopping the monster, they must race to locate and repair the Ava’s earth sent robot, before it slaughters them one by one.

Joy flies to Hong Kong, where she meets her best friend Alain. With him, she visits the hottest districts of the city. She is kidnapped and imprisoned in a brothel and has to pay a high price for her freedom.

Buddy's baseball team, the Bearcats, takes on the Battling Bruisers in the big stadium. The crowd buys tickets and hot dogs before settling down to watch the game....

Married at 17 and widowed at 20, Dr. Balasubrahmaniam lives with his teenage son. Son does not want to follow his father into medicine and joins an engineering college. He is killed accidentally by some seniors during ragging. The grief-stricken father tries to avenge his son's death.

John and his class visit the Tower of London, where he loses his pet mouse. He falls asleep during a lesson on electricity, but with some help, he learns about it, invades the Tower, and saves his pet.

Waleed, an uninspired student at Diablo Valley College, develops feelings for Liam, a student with high potential prowess. As the two continue to develop feelings for each other, their worries over their differing lifestyles prevent them from being together.

Before the breakout of the Sino-Japanese War, Hong, Wang, and Peng were best friends. Hong and Wang secretly joined the local guerrillas after the Japanese began invading China. Hong ran a small business and Wang worked as a courier for a Japanese trading firm, hiding their true identities in order to collect intelligence on the Japanese for the Eight Route Army, and established a railway guerrilla unit. Wang soon found out that the trading firm he was working for was indeed an intelligence unit of the Japanese. They infiltrated the Japanese special forces and eliminated many Japanese. Suspicions arise from the Japanese as to the real identity of the individuals suspected of being part of the railway guerrilla forces, so called Flying Tigers unit, so the Japanese began to form a counter-spying operation and other under-handed means by recruiting Chinese traitors to uncover and eliminate them all.

Paris, France. Commissaire Wens is put in charge of the investigation into the murder of one of six friends who, in the past, made a very profitable promise.

The film is a continuous time-lapse with multiple exposures of the sunset from the same angle and position on 16mm film. The shoot was done in a span of 5 years. The title 13 is because the time-lapse has a 13-second interval per frame.
