This 30-minute film shares the powerful story behind the DPS Challenger Learning Center, which is one of only 32 Challenger Learning Centers worldwide. Through exclusive interviews with June Scobee Rodgers (founding Chair of Challenger Center and widow of Challenger Space Shuttle Commander Richard “Dick” Scobee), retired astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger (STS-131) and Jim Rowley (Professor Emeritus at the University of Dayton and Semi-Finalist for Teacher in Space), the documentary highlights the lasting impact of the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy and how it inspired a global movement dedicated to sparking students’ interest in Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Cameramen and women discuss the craft and art of cinematography and of the "DP" (the director of photography), illustrating their points with clips from 100 films, from Birth of a Nation to Do the Right Thing. Themes: the DP tells people where to look; changes in movies (the arrival of sound, color, and wide screens) required creative responses from DPs; and, these artisans constantly invent new equipment and try new things, with wonderful results. The narration takes us through the identifiable studio styles of the 30s, the emergence of noir, the New York look, and the impact of Europeans.
