Luisa recently moved out of her parent's home into a residential group at a facility for people with disabilities on the outskirts of a small German town. There she receives support in her often turbulent everyday life. Unnoticed, Luisa becomes increasingly quiet, everyday life in the residential group continues until it is unexpectedly discovered that Luisa is pregnant. She does not say how this happened and everyone knows that her boyfriend Anton is infertile. Suspicion of sexual abuse is obvious. Luisa decides to terminate the pregnancy. The police are called in and try to find out whether a crime has been committed. The investigation becomes a test of endurance for Luisa, her relationship with Anton and for all the staff at the residential facility.

It's 1989 in East Berlin: Suzie is kicked out of school shortly before she graduates from high school and has to defend herself as a worker in the cable factory. However, a randomly taken photo leads her to the fashion world of the GDR. The editor-in-chief Elsa Wilbrodt put her on the cover of Sibylle, the fashion magazine of the GDR. In the Berlin underground scene she made the acquaintance of the gay fashion designer Rudi and the photographer Coyote. Suzie must decide if she's brave enough to leave the old strands behind forever.

After Margaret, a divorcée living in Dublin, loses her teenage son, she develops an unorthodox relationship with Joe, a homeless youth. Their tentative trust is threatened by his involvement with a violent gang and the escalation of her ex-husband's grieving rage.
