Baghdad, 2005. After Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena is kidnapped by insurgents, veteran SISMI negotiator Nicola Calipari is tasked with rescuing her, but interference from US forces in Iraq compromises his mission.

Captain Fedor Volkonogov works in law enforcement. He is on the good books of the management, and his colleagues respect him. But one day, his life abruptly changes: he is declared a criminal. However, this is more than Franz can bear: he feels powerless and increasingly isolates himself. When he then decides to steal secret documents for a later defection to the West, this results in an unfortunate chain reaction leading to his arrest and ultimately to his execution...
