“Maybe I really am the devil.”
Rodrigo, a teenager staying at his father's house during vacation, is bewildered after being forced to kill a chicken for dinner, questioning the meaning of power, good, evil, and the existence of god. Feeling guilty for his acts, he discusses with his dad about the capability of taking lives away, making his mind hallucinate over the chicken scene, that tortures him along a rainy and painful night.

Living in rural Texas is a dysfunctional family: an abusive dad, a Vietnam vet with a war wound that's left him impotent; a compliant wife and a son of about 20, two small sons who look a lot like their brother. The dad harbors a secret, and he goes to murderous lengths to keep it hidden. The young man, Jimmy, who has suspicions, but little comes out until a Yankee woman comes to town.

Avery, a reclusive older man, has a best friend in his dog, Red. When three teens kill Red without reason, Avery sets out for justice and redemption, attempting to follow the letter of the law. But when the law fails him, and the boys' father clearly defines right and wrong in his own way, Avery must avenge himself by any means possible.
