Celil works as an ambulance driver in Idlib and Azaz, where the war is taking place. He also takes on the task of rescuing cats from areas destroyed by bombing. In Azez, he established an animal rehabilitation center and publicized his activities to the world. With support from many countries around the world, cats injured in the war begin to recover their health in this shelter. Celil has become a hero to cats left homeless by the war.

When Singapore surrendered to the Japanese in 1942, the Allied POWs, mostly British but including a few Americans, were incarcerated in Changi prison. Among the American prisoners is Cpl. King, a wheeler-dealer who has managed to establish a pretty good life for himself in the camp. King soon forms a friendship with an upper-class British officer who is fascinated with King's enthusiastic approach to life.
