Simon reflects on the day before his sister's wedding, in which Simon and his Abuela prepare for the big event. While Abuela tries to make Simon presentable for the party, Simon feels her gasp closing in on the only threads of his individuality he holds sacred. By nightfall, he finally works up the courage to show Abuela who he truly is behind all of the masculine shame and guilt.
