A boring Wednesday afternoon. Aïda, Eren and Emilie are hanging around, trying to find something to do. Suddenly, a very strange car appears at the corner of the street. On top of it, a nine eyes camera is taking pictures of the city, mapping it out. The girls are delighted: that's a great opportunity to do a photo shoot. Here they go, walking next to the car, posing in front of the camera, and soon enough they're cracking up. The car is already far up the street when Aïda pulls up her t-shirt towards her friends to make them laugh even more. She realizes too late that the camera is 360°, and that the car has her picture. Now they need to get it back.

A star is born in a time of both celebration and instability in this historical drama with music from director Christophe Barratier. In the spring of 1936, Paris is in a state of uncertainty; while the rise of the Third Reich in Germany worries many, a leftist union-oriented candidate, Léon Blum, has been voted into power, and organized labor is feeling its new power by standing up to management.

Desperate to break free from the poverty of his homeland, Elias boards a ramshackle people-smuggling trawler to France. But when the boat is raided by police, Elias leaps into the ocean, eventually finding himself washed up on a Mediterranean beach resort called Eden. So begins Elias odyssesy across Western Europe to Paris, where wondrous promise, helpful new friends and perilous dangers await him every step of the way.
